Who Inspires You?
I found inspiration in Sam Cooke’s song “A Change is Gonna Come” because of its message of hope and perseverance. He sang...
There have been times that I thought I couldn't last for long But now I think I'm able to carry on It's been a long, a long time coming But I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will
After many years, I learned that Sam Cooke’s inspiration for the song included his personal experience with racial injustice as well as Bob Dylan’s song “Blowin' in the Wind”.
The photo in this post depicts an inspirational moment in my life where I enjoyed a beer with shipmates. We were at sea for so long, that for a few hours, we were permitted to wear civilian clothes, relax on the fan tail, and express love, peace, and happiness.
I am also inspired by people like Ruth Bader Ginsburg who spent most of her life advocating for gender equality. Her quote, “Real change, enduring change, occurs one step at a time” reminds me of Sam Cooke’s lyric. Sam Cooke refused to leave an all-white hotel in 1963 and R.B.G continues to be ready to dissent. It's been a long time coming, and I am inspired to express myself as a DJ.
